Back to School Resources for Jewish Families

By Jacqueline Golan  |  Aug 12, 2025

As the new school year begins, the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas extends a warm and heartfelt welcome to all students, parents, and educators. This season of new beginnings is filled with excitement, growth, and opportunity for our young learners.

At the same time, we recognize the growing concerns around rising antisemitism in K-12 schools and on college campuses. Please know you are not alone. Our team at the Jewish Federation, alongside our dedicated community partners, are here to support you every step of the way.

This post provides information and resources to support Jewish families in K-12 schools and on college campuses.

🧰 Resources for Families and Students

  • Counseling and Support: The rise of antisemitism and hate has deeply affected us all. Feelings of anxiety and grief are normal, especially when carrying the responsibility of caring for those you love. Taking care of ourselves and seeking support is essential. Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas (JFS) is here to help, offering age-appropriate care for children, adults, and families. Learn more here.
  • College Campus Resources: Jewish Federation works closely with Hillel, Chabad and other student focused organizations to support Jewish life on campus and respond to antisemitic incidents. Whether they are staying local or heading out of town, students can fill out this short form put together by Hillels throughout Texas to get connected with Hillel on their campus.
  • K-12 Parents Resource Guide: We created this toolkit for parents and caregivers of K-12 Jewish students to help you be proactive and empowered in advocating for your child in school. This toolkit will be discussed at our Empowered Parents Summit mentioned below.
  • Empowered Parents Summit – Join us on Thursday, August 28 at 7:00 PM to learn skills and gain resources to be the best advocate for your child in school. This program is powered by ADL Texoma, AJC Dallas, the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas alongside numerous community partners and is intended for parents and caregivers of K-12 Jewish students.

🛡️ Standing Strong Against Antisemitism

Earlier this year, we advocated for the passage of Senate Bill 326 in the Texas State Legislature, which requires public schools and universities to consider the IHRA definition of antisemitism when evaluating student conduct. This legislation is a significant step forward in recognizing and addressing the various forms of antisemitism that can manifest in educational settings.

The Jewish Federation is actively working on initiatives and partnerships with schools and community organizations to address antisemitism in educational spaces and provide the education and resources needed to combat antisemitism.

📣 Know Your Rights & Report Incidents

It’s vital that incidents of antisemitism are reported. Data collection helps to identify trends and ensure we have the facts and details necessary to support our advocacy.

Even if you are not sure what you’ve experienced is antisemitic, we encourage you to report incidents to the Anti-Defamation League here:

Report an Incident

If a college student experiences or witnesses an incident on campus, encourage them to report it to their university and via ReportCampusHate.org.

Although incidents reported through this link may be shared with relevant partners based upon the details of the individual report, this reporting mechanism should not be used as a substitute for reporting to your school or local law enforcement, if needed. In an emergency, call 911.

Each school district also has its own reporting process—we encourage you to familiarize yourself with your school’s or district’s policies, procedures and incident reporting mechanisms. See below for important information from some local school districts.

Additionally, look at your school calendar to identify any potential conflicts with Jewish holidays or observances. This year Rosh Hashanah begins Monday evening, September 22nd, and Yom Kippur begins Wednesday evening, October 1st. We recommend that you communicate as early as possible with your child’s teacher about religious holidays and how your family’s observances of these holidays might affect your child in the classroom. This calendar of Jewish holidays, which includes practical tips for educators of ways they can be supportive of Jewish students, may be helpful in your outreach.
