SUMMARY:DHHRM Destroyer of Worlds: Hiroshima\, Nagasaki\, and the Atomic Bomb
DESCRIPTION:This is a VIRTUAL program. We look forward to seeing you on Zoom. \nOn August 6 and 9\, 1945\, the United States detonated two atomic bombs over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Marking the first and only use of nuclear weapons in warfare\, the dropping of these bombs led to Japan’s surrender and the end of World War II. The bombings resulted in the immediate deaths of between 150\,000 and 246\,000 people\, most of whom were civilians\, and left lasting physical and psychological scars on those who survived. Historian and author M.G. Sheftall joins us virtually to explore the aftereffects of the bombings\, share the voices of survivors\, and examine the ethical and moral considerations surrounding the use of the atomic bomb through expert historical analysis.

SUMMARY:CBT Junior Congregation
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of Junior Congregation is to give students a chance to participate in a real\, child-centered prayer program during which they learn not only how to pray\, but also the concepts and meanings that make prayer so central to the Jewish heritage. \nOur students practice their chanting skills\, learning prayers that are taught in their regular Hebrew classes. Not only are students able to practice their chanting skills\, but they also experience the practical value of their classroom studies. \nStudents feel that the service belongs to them and is shaped by their participation. When students lead a service\, they become more invested in its success. \nJunior Congregation open to all school-aged youth and we invite all caregivers and trusted adults to attend alongside their children. \nIf an adult or teen is interested in leading Junior Congregation\, please reach out to us at ritual@congregationbethtorah.org.
