In conjunction with the Dallas Opera and in anticipation of the upcoming symphony Shostakovich 13, which is based largely on the Babi Yar massacre, the Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance and the Dallas Opera will host a musical performance and a panel discussion. This event will also tie into the Museum’s special exhibit Holocaust by Bullets
Using the symphony Shostakovich 13 and the Special Exhibit Holocaust by Bullets as a touchstone, panelists will discuss the life and career of Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich. Topics will include the Holocaust in Eastern Europe, the Babi Yar massacre, and how the Holocaust influenced the direction of classical music.
The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of the symphony’s performance but also to memorialize the 75th anniversary of the Babi Yar massacre, as well as the other 1.5 million Jews who similarly perished in Eastern Europe during the Holocaust.
