The Dallas chapter of HaZamir: the International Jewish High School Choir, conducted by Casey L. Carter and Artistic Advisor Cantor Richard Cohn, will hold open rehearsals for teens interested in joining for the upcoming season on Sunday, September 14, 21 & 28 from 4:30-6:30 PM.
Parents are welcome to attend the first rehearsals to speak with the leaders and learn more about the ensemble and international organization.
HaZamir is a musical youth movement that provides an opportunity for Jewish teens of all movements and backgrounds to sing contemporary, historical, and sophisticated modern Jewish choral music in a fun, social setting. The Dallas chapter is part of a network that includes more than 25 HaZamir chapters throughout the USA and Israel. Local chapters rehearse weekly to learn a common repertoire, then gather together to polish and perform the repertoire at regional, national, and international events, culminating in a gala concert with more than 300 performers from America and Israel. This year’s concert will be at Avery Fisher Hall on March 22, 2015, in New York City.
HaZamir is now in its 22nd year. The choir is open to Jewish 8th- to12th-graders who meet the HaZamir musical eligibility requirements. The group rehearses on Sundays from 4:30-6:30 PM in the Preston Hollow and North Dallas areas.
HaZamir also sponsors a by-audition chamber ensemble comprised of forty HaZamir members from the USA and Israel who aspire to a more challenging level of choral music. This group will perform additional repertoire at the Lincoln Center concert. In addition, HaZamir offers a college credit program for high school juniors and seniors; the credit is accepted at more than 70 colleges and universities.
HaZamir Dallas is celebrating their sixth year and is coordinated by Cantor Richard Cohn and Casey L. Carter.
