Southwest Jewish Congress, 3 Stars Cinema and American Indian Heritage Day in Texas and Studio Movie Grill will partner to present a free film screening of Dawnland. For most of the 20th century, government agents systematically forced Native American children from their homes and placed them with white families. Now, for the first time, they are being asked to share their stories. The Emmy-award winning Dawnland follows the journey of Maine’s truth and reconciliation commission (TRC), the first government-sanctioned commission of its kind, as it gathers testimony and bears witness to the devastating impact of these practices on the state’s tribal communities. The film screening is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Reservations requested. Email susan@swjc.org or call 214-361-0018.
